New Nine Inch Nails

Originally scheduled to debut Thursday, June 6, new Nine Inch Nails song “Came Back Haunted” leaked online one day early, ending the bands five year hiatus.

The track harkens back to classic NIN, infused with the energy of the band’s legendary 1989 debut, Pretty Hate Machine bolstered with the epic scope of the 1994 follow-up, The Downward Spiral.

Buzzing synthesizers and a hard, rolling bass line propel the decidedly industrial rock song, with Reznor’s distinctive vocals cutting through the dense maelstrom, screaming “I don’t believe it/I had to see it/I came back haunted” throughout the arena-sized chorus.

News of a new song sent shockwaves throughout the music community, still reeling from Trent Reznor’s unexpected announcement of a new, full length album coming in 2013. The singer/songwriter admitted he had been “less than honest” about what he’d been up to lately.

“For the last year I’ve been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great.”

New NIN Album

Nine Inch Nails have announced they’re signed to Columbia Records. The band will be releasing a new album this year.

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor released this statement: “I’ve been less than honest about what I’ve really been up to lately,” said Trent Reznor. “For the last year I’ve been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great.

“This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HTDA and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place.”

Stigmata will be hosting a Nine Inch Nails tribute night this Friday at Dragonfly.

Get Lucky

The campaign for Daft Punk's forthcoming album Random Access Memories has been a masterclass in teasing. Unfolding like the various levels of a promotional campaign for a blockbuster film – including gigantic billboard posters, TV trailers and behind-the-scenes featurettes – it has repositioned the duo as an event band following 2005's disappointing (and low-selling) Human After All and 2010's underwhelming Tron soundtrack.

New OMD

Written, recorded, produced and mixed by OMD – Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys – ‘English Electric’ will be released April 8th. New Depeche Mode

Now that Depeche Mode has released its new album Delta Machine, the band has revealed a suggestive black and white music video for the album track "Soothe My Soul."

Directed by Warren Fu, the stark, Instagram-style, shadowy clip is of the NSFW variety, as it juxtaposes images of the trio performing the song against shots of a naked woman caressing a snake, as well as an equally naked man. Watch below.

While the new album continues to rack up generally positive reviews, Depeche Mode recently announced the dates for the North American leg of its 2013 tour, which will launch August 22 in Detroit and end October 8 in Phoenix. While those that purchase Delta Machine on Amazon by April 1 receive early access, tickets go on sale to the public on April 6 via Live Nation

Austra - Home

Katie Stelmanis’ Toronto-based band Austra have announced the follow-up to 2011’s Feel It Break. The record, titled Olympia, is out June 18 in the U.S. and June 17 elsewhere via Domino (as well as June 18 in Canada via Paper Bag).

According to a press release, Olympia is a more lyrically confessional and musically collaborative record than its predecessor. The lyrics, written by Stelmanis along with backing vocalist Sari Lightman, are “dark,” but it’s “fundamentally a dance record.” The band co-produced the record with Fucked Up’s Mike Haliechuk, with vocal production by Damian Taylor, who worked on Feel It Break and has worked with Björk, the Killers, and more.
