R3hab Remix

R3hab caps off an impressive year by taking Steve Aoki’s big time crowd pleaser and adding in his own magic touch. A tasteful remix giving his 2011 portfolio some contrast.

Long Lost Eighties

Another classic Eighties style Electro dance bomb written, produced & mixed by John Robie who also co-produced Afrika's Bambaataa's "Planet Rock," plus many more classic jams. This record also included the unique vocals of Jenny Burton. "One More Shot" is one of those songs you never get tired off, the amazing production with the glass-breaking sound was so ahead of it's time back in 1982. It was a blue print for the Freestyle sound that was about to emerge on the east coast in the early eighties.

One of the special things about this record was that it was played on Miami's power 96 as a classic during 1989, but when the song kept getting so many request, the station decided to bring it back to life by adding it to their regular rotation like a brand new song. Due to popular demand for this then out of print record, the song's label Next Plateau re-released the single and it became a huge hit all over again during that year selling thousands of copies of the 12" inch. Originally released in 1982, check out the classic "One more shot" which made Billboards top 5 the same week Michael Jackson's "Thriller" was #1.

Who Would Have Thunk?

Who knew that Kim Jong-Il moonlighted as a part-time DJ? With his recent passing, many photos of the "Dear Leader" with famous DJs such as Tiesto, Daft Punk, Skrillex, Moby, & David Guetta have surfaced on the Internet. Dropping bass rather than bombs definitely seems more fitting for North Korea's deceased dictator.

Long Lost Eighties

Total Coelo - The weirdest girl group ever assembled, think The Go-Go's meets the musical "Cats", somewhere on Mars, hopped-up on designer drugs... Formed in London in 1981, and originally called "Toto Coelo", and which, in Latin, means numerous things, such as 'Heart and Soul', 'Root and Branch' and 'Totally Different'.

The girls had quite a big cult hit, called "I Eat Cannibals", and a not so popular follow-up single, "Milk From The Coconut", a happy little ditty about spousal abuse! Cheeze-tastic to the freaking max, and of course one of my all-time favorites...

Long Lost Eighties

For those who don't remember, D-Day is most known for the delightfully trashy new wave - punk gem: Too Young to Date, which controversially hit #1 on "Rodney on the Rock" on L.A.'s famous KROQ station upon its release.

The band followed it up with just one other single and an LP that are both fantastic, so it will be great to hear what else they had up their sleeves that never saw the light of day.

Long Lost Eighties

In a time that included no shortage of highly creative and quirky bands, early 80s new wave act Slow Children managed to stand out as one of the most unique and compelling.

The duo, consisting of singer Pal Shazar and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Chinich - had a lyrical bite and attitude drenched female vocals not unlike that of The Waitresses, but forged a style all their own on their two albums, 1981's self-titled LP and 1982's Mad About Town.

Their most popular song was "President Am I," a minor new wave classic in the Hollywood Clubs at the time, but the duo released a number of other fantastic songs, including "Spring in Fialta," "Brazilian Magazines," "Late Night Transatlantic," "One More Trauma" and "Vanessa Vascillating."

After the band's end following the release of Mad About Town, Shazar went on to release a number of solo albums. In Spring 2010, she and Chinich reunited, began to write new material and even played a gig as Slow Children in New York City.

Long Lost Eighties

With probably the worst album cover of the 80s, the Suburbs came up with a club cult classic. The song was a massive hit at both the Odyssey and Seven Seas, the only two New Wave clubs in Hollywood at the time. The Suburbs formed in 1977 with Punk and new wave influences. They were signed to Twin Tone & Mercury Records.

Who's Wearing The Cap

One of the great things about collaboration tracks like this is that it usually comes with a pretty good story on how it was made/named. This one is no different asSander van Doorn says “People sometimes mix me up with Luke, so in the studio, he was wearing a cap, we took a picture for Twitter asking, ‘Who’s Wearing The Cap?’ and that became the name of the track!”

The synth hits almost feels like something something Swedish House Mafia would do, but then it drops into a more bass mood more accustomed to Laidback Luke & Sander Van Doorn‘s stylings.

Laidback Luke & Sander Van Doorn – Who’s Wearing The Cap

The Bloody Beetroots

Nothing hits the speaker max quicker than some Bloody Beetroots. Their new song Church of Noise is a reckless, massive tune with an overload of bass. Here are the two remixes from Diplo and Congorock that came out this week.

The Bloody Beetroots – Church of Noise (Diplo Remix)
The Bloody Beetroots – Church of Noise feat. Dennis Lyxzen (Congorock Remix)

Long Lost Eighties

This is the first in a series of blog posts of long lost Eighties tunes. Songs that were big club hits in their day, but somehow have been lost in time. Most were one hit wonders, and all will be worth listing to...

We start out with an electro new wave band: Our Daughters Wedding (Sounds like early Depeche Mode & OMD)

Originally form San Francisco, Our Daughters Wedding started playing in 1977, lasting for about a year before breaking up. Then, just before the 80s began, they met up in New York and decided to start all over again, this time going totally electronic, with drum machines and synthesizers. By mid 1980, they scored their one and only hit with the dance club favorite: "Lawnchairs" (Design Records).

The band signed with EMI records and released the 5 song EP "Digital Cowboy" which featured a re-recording of "Lawnchairs", this time using real drums. In 1982 they released their second and last LP "Moving Windows" - but the band broke up not long after.

New Steve Aoki

Haven’t heard from Steve Aoki in a minute. This track features the vocals of Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo and is certified heat. This track has a great beat to coincide with the not great, but good vocals of Rivers Cuomo and is definitely good to have in the collection.
